The MTV video music awards 2022 have a new category this year that will honor the best of the virtual world musical performances. These musicians are considered the best performers of the world. It’s another recognition of the changing trend, with virtual concerts taking place in shared online environments seen in the likes of Fortnite and Roblox.

There are six nominees for the Best Metaverse Performance. I’ll describe this as Blackpunk the Virtual in PUBG, BTS’ performance in Minecraft, Charli XCX in Roblox, Justin Bieber in Wave, Ariana Grande’s performance on Fortnite’s Rift Tour, and Twenty One Pilots’ Concert Experience in Roblox.

“We saw the opportunity to celebrate and highlight some of the most influential works of this kind and celebrate artists who have found creative ways to use these spaces which led to the addition of “Best Metaverse Performance” this year”, an MTV spokesperson said in a statement given to The Hill.
Travis Scott made headlines in 2020 when he played the Astronomical concert in Fortnite, as one of the pioneers of a virtual performances hosted inside a virtual game that a player could attend. Since then the number of virtual concerts has only increased, with experts citing the sudden lockdown and result of cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic as accelerating the trend.
Earlier, the uBG Mobile company held its first virtual concert, with Blackpink, a slick girl group who is taking the stage. Fortnite players got free tickets in-game. They must preload the Concert Resource Pack to attend. Blackpink created a new music video and track video to complement the collaboration with PUBG Mobile. The film, ‘Ready for Love’, a new collection created by the battle royale, has been watched on over 24 million times on YouTube, since it was uploaded on Friday and features a blackpink icon.
The winners will be announced live on the VMA show on August 28th.
