Fast facts

  • Coinbase first announced its NFT marketplace in October 2021, and over three million customers have since lined up on the waitlist.
  • The platform, which currently operates without charging fees, will add a fee structure in the future, Sanchan Saxena, VP of products at Coinbase, blogged at April’s beta
  • NFT transaction fees have been in the spotlight as of late, as Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs’ Otherside metaverse land sale clogged the Ethereum network, causing gas fees to spike to thousands of dollars per transaction.
  • Coinbase intends to add features to its NFT marketplace in the future, including drops, minting, support for multiple blockchains, and credit card purchases, Saxena said.
